The Charter Petition

Many San Mateo County families as well as teachers support Oceanlight.

On December 17, 2025, the San Mateo County Board of Education did not approve Oceanlight's Countywide Charter Petition. We remain committed to exploring all possibilities to bring Oceanlight School's education to families in the region. Stay tuned and sign up for updates to learn more.

Message of Support

Thank you to everyone who wrote the San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) Board of Trustees to share your support of Oceanlight School.

Planned Location

Oceanlight School aims to open within 2–3 miles of Hickey Blvd. & Skyline Blvd. (CA-35) for easy access from Daly City, Pacifica, Colma, San Bruno, and South San Francisco, and close to nature.

Key Details

Each countywide charter petition signature:

  • Shows strong community demand to the authorizer
  • Declares “meaningful intent to enroll” children in TK–8 for Fall 2026
  • Gives child(ren) priority consideration for admission in our first year – if applications exceed seats, children of those who sign with meaningful intent will be considered among the first

Note:

  • Sign only if intending to enroll a TK–8 student for Fall 2026; signing is not a legal commitment to enroll
  • Must be a San Mateo County resident and provide only one signature per family for meaningful intent to enroll
  • Teachers who support our mission and interested in working at Oceanlight School can sign to show “meaningful intent to teach”.

Thank you for your support!
